Description
During this tour, your personal guide will take you through the Jewish Quarter of Amsterdam and will show you statues, Jewish monuments and historic locations. At every stop the guide will share heartbreaking stories, historical facts and emotional experiences of Jewish people who lived in Amsterdam during World War II. Not only will the guide bring Anne's tragic story to life, you will also learn more about her sister Margot, her parents Otto and Edith, her love interest Peter and about the brave resistance fighter Miep Gies who helped Anne when she had to hide for two years in the secret annex, which you'll also get to see from the outside. This is a perfect alternative if you failed to get tickets to the Anne Frank House!
Did you know that of all Western European countries during World War II, the Netherlands had the largest Jewish community? Since The Netherlands gained independence in 1648 after an eighty years war against the Spanish Empire, it has always been a very tolerate and liberal country. A country in which all people from all religions could feel safe and secure. Where everybody could feel at home. You could imagine how horribly and rapidly the lives of the Jewish people from Amsterdam changed when Nazi-Germany occupied the country in 1940. On this tour you can find out how the 'Amsterdammers' responded to the influence of the Nazi's, how brutal the effects were for the Jewish population and how Anne could feel the ground slipping away beneath her feet when the German army invaded.
